Do ya remember Les Nubians?! I still listen to them. Man when I was very young, I used to stay up really late to listen to this college radio station that would have a neo-soul hour. So many artist I found this way. I remember hearing song "Makeda" by Les Nubians, I was floored. I looked up at the ceiling after it was done, shut off the radio and tears ran down my face. I was so excited all I could do was cry. Eventually I would record the song onto tape and play it over and over again. The diaspora is so fucking amazing, black people are everything. Everything. The most beautiful alienation. I cry every  single time I listen to "Makeda"...every single time. I remember when I eventually visited my cousins in Paris in my early 20s, my cousin that was around my age sat in his room and he was showing me all of his magazine clippings, everything he clipped was so incredibly dark, it was wonderful. All these amazing images of black people he found. Then all the sudden I snapped out of my amazement because "Makeda" started playing. We both sat on his bed in silence, both tearing up, and he held my hand. He held my hand. From then on that was my nigga, fr fr. GO LISTEN
